Those who had hopes of seeing Jimmer Fredette score points by the dozen in The Basketball Tournament are getting their wish.
Fredette led his namesake team — Team Fredette — to another victory, pouring in 41 points in a 104-91 win over the Fort Wayne Champs, advancing to the quarterfinals Sunday at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
His team trailed 34-20 after the first quarter and he started 1 of 5 from the field. He finished 12 of 16 from there, shooting 13 of 21 for the game — including 6 of 11 from deep — and Team Fredette rallied for the big win.
TBT is a 72-team tournament comprised of teams with players who are overseas professionals, former NBA and college players, or NBA players not currently under contract. Fredette added eight rebounds and five assists. NBA Summer League shooting savant Jeff Ledbetter got it going, finishing 5 of 8 from deep for 17 points. Brandon Davies, one of Fredette’s BYU teammates, totaled 11 points and seven rebounds.
Jack Cooley, a fringe NBA player recently added to the roster, played 11 minutes, scoring eight points and grabbing three rebounds.
Fredette is averaging 34.3 points per game, which are each 36 minutes long.
Team Fredette advances to play Ohio State alumni team Scarlet & Gray, featuring former NBA players Jared Sullinger and Greg Oden, G League mainstay Aaron Craft, and coached by Scoonie Penn and Portland Trail Blazers wing Evan Turner. That game is scheduled to tip off at 1 p.m. MDT Sunday, July 29.
