BLOUNTVILLE – The Tri-Cities Airport Authority announced on Monday it has been awarded a $1.69 million grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Aeronautics Economic Development Fund to further the development of Aerospace Park, the airport’s aviation-related economic development project.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has assessed a civil penalty of more than $492,000 on the owner of a tire dumping operation. The state wants the money in about 30 days.
“That’s the benefit of Ballad. We’re no longer three independently operating trauma programs. We’re a trauma system … Holston Valley (Medical Center) is going to need Johnson City. It’s going to need Bristol.”
Bristol Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Beth Rhinehart asked the Airport Authority for the letter, which would have supported Virginia legislation allowing a local option vote on the issue.
Airport Authority Chairman Jon Smith was expected to negotiate a compensation package – which included base pay of $150,000 per year – with Gene Cossey. If no agreement could be reached, Airport Authority commissioners said they would reconvene its search committee with a new slate of candidates.
